Marketing

Send one-off push notifications, emails or texts to your customers.

Written by Berke Atik

The Marketing tab lets you send one-off messages to your customers whenever you like, such as a weekend offer, a new menu or an event. Send them now or schedule them for later.

This guide covers push notifications, email and SMS, and who receives your messages. For the messages Loyaltify sends automatically, see Notifications.

Who receives your messages

  • Messages go to everyone who holds the card you select. You can't send one to a single customer, or pick customers by their answers or activity.

  • Only customers who ticked the marketing consent box when they signed up receive marketing messages.

  • They only reach people who already have your card, so they can't be used to invite new customers.

💡 Good to know: You can check whether a customer gave consent in Customers: click Edit next to their name. Updates about their balance and location notifications don't need consent, so every cardholder gets those.

Send a push notification

Push notifications appear on your customers' phones through their loyalty card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. They're included in every plan and need no setup.

  1. Go to Marketing and click New Message.

  2. Select the card whose customers should receive it.

  3. Choose Push Notification as the message type.

  4. Pick the date and time to send it. It uses your account's time zone.

  5. Write your message and click Create.

💡 Example: "Flash deal! 5% off everything until 6 pm today 🎉"

To read a message you've already sent, click the eye icon next to it.

⚠️ Want to test a message first? Create a test card and form, sign up yourself, and send the message to that card only. Otherwise it goes to all your customers on the card you choose.

Send email or SMS (Advanced plan)

On the Advanced plan, you can also send email and SMS from the Marketing tab through your own provider account. Connect your provider first, then choose it as the message type:

Using Mailchimp or Brevo? These keep your customer list in sync, and you send your campaigns from Mailchimp or Brevo itself.

Customer not getting your messages?

Check these three things, in this order:

  1. Marketing consent: In Customers, click Edit next to the customer and check that they gave consent.

  2. Phone settings: Notifications must be allowed for the Wallet app on their phone.

  3. Card settings: The customer opens the card in their Wallet, taps the three-dot icon, opens the notification settings and turns the toggles on. They're on by default.

For the full checklist, including the limits Apple and Google set on notifications, see Troubleshooting common issues.

Good to know

  • Delivery isn't always instant. Loyaltify sends straight away, but Apple and Google decide when the phone shows the message.

  • Testing several messages in a row? Apple delays notifications when one card gets lots of updates in a short time, and Google Wallet shows at most 3 notifications per card in 24 hours.

  • Put the full message in the notification. On iPhone, tapping it opens the card but doesn't show the message again.
