How to set up your first loyalty programme

Set up your store, card, sign-up form and plan, step by step.

Written by Berke Atik

Get your loyalty programme up and running in about 10 minutes.

This guide walks you through everything you need to set up your first digital loyalty programme with Loyaltify, from creating your store to welcoming your first customers.

With Loyaltify, your customers won't need to download an app. They can save their loyalty cards directly to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

Let's get started!

Step 1: Create your store

First, let's set up your business in Loyaltify.

You'll need to enter three things:

  1. Store Name: Enter the name of your business or brand. This is the name your customers will see.

  2. Store Logo: Upload your logo in PNG or JPG format. We recommend a square image (1:1), ideally 500 × 500 px.

  3. Main Branch Address: Enter your business's main address. You can add more branches and locations later.

Your store name and logo will appear on your loyalty cards and sign-up forms, so make sure they're recognisable to your customers.

💡 Good to know: Don't have everything ready? No problem! You can use temporary details and update them any time under Store Settings after the initial setup is complete!

Step 2: Design your loyalty card

Now for the fun part! Let's create the loyalty card your customers will carry on their phones.

Choose your loyalty card type

Start by deciding how you'd like to reward your customers.

Loyaltify offers several card types, including Stamp, Points, Cashback, Discount, Prepaid, Coupon, and Membership.

Here are a few examples:

  • Stamp Card: Reward repeat visits or purchases, such as offering a free coffee after 10 stamps.

  • Points Card: Let customers earn points and exchange them for rewards, such as earning 1 point for every €1 spent.

  • Cashback Card: Give customers credit back on their purchases to spend on future visits.

Each card uses one loyalty type, so choose the one that best suits your business.

Not sure which one to choose? Check out our Loyalty Card Types guide to explore all the options.

Customise your card's appearance

Under Appearance, you can personalise your card to match your brand.

  • Background: Choose a background colour or upload an image (recommended size: 1140 × 435 px).

  • Text Colour: Pick a colour that's easy to read against your background.

  • Stamp Icons: If you're creating a Stamp Card, search for an icon that suits your business or upload your own.

As you make changes, the Card Preview on the right updates automatically.

You can switch between Apple Wallet and Google Wallet previews to see how your card will look on each platform. You can also preview the Card Details to see what customers will find on the back of their card.

Set up your rewards

Next, decide what your customers can earn.

The available settings depend on your card type. For example, with a Stamp Card, you can:

  • Choose how many stamps customers need to earn their final reward.

  • Add milestone rewards along the way.

  • Set an Initial Balance to give customers free stamps when they first join.

If you don't want to offer a welcome bonus, simply leave the initial balance at 0.

💡 Tip: Make sure customers know what they're collecting rewards for! You can use Custom Back Fields to display your rewards, programme details, or any other helpful information on the back of the card.

Explore advanced settings (optional)

Want more control over your loyalty programme?

Expand Advanced Settings to explore additional features, depending on your card type and subscription plan.

These include options such as:

  • Card Expiration: Set an expiry date for your loyalty card.

  • Stamp or Point Expiration: Decide how long earned stamps or points remain valid.

  • Earning Restrictions: Limit how often customers can earn rewards, such as one scan per day.

  • Customize Card Layout: Choose which information appears on the front of your card.

  • Tier Program and Referral Program: Create different loyalty levels or reward customers for referring friends.

  • Custom Back Fields: Add extra information to the back of your card.

You'll also find options for reviews, links, terms of service, support information, and more.

💡 Good to know: You don't have to configure everything right now. You can skip advanced settings and come back to them whenever you're ready.

Step 3: Create your sign-up form

Your sign-up form is how customers join your loyalty programme and receive their digital card.

Every loyalty card has its own sign-up form, and you can customise the information you'd like to collect.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Required Fields: Customers provide their name and either an email address or phone number.

  • Optional Fields: Collect additional details, such as birthdays, to personalise their experience.

  • Marketing Consent: Include this option if you want to send promotional push notifications. Only customers who opt in can receive them.

  • Custom Fields: On supported plans, you can add your own questions to collect information relevant to your business.

Customers will also be asked to accept your Terms of Service when signing up.

💡 Tip: Keep your sign-up form short and simple. The fewer details customers need to enter, the easier it is for them to join!

For a more detailed walkthrough, see Sign-up Forms.

Step 4: Get your QR code and flyer

Your loyalty programme is almost ready! Now let's make it easy for customers to join.

Loyaltify automatically generates a QR code and a ready-to-use flyer connected to your sign-up form.

You can share them in several ways:

  • Download your flyer and display it at your counter, tables, or entrance.

  • Download the QR code to include it in your own menus, posters, or promotional materials.

  • Copy your sign-up link to share on your website, social media, or WhatsApp.

If you do not like our design, and would like to create your own, you could always grab the QR code from your Form Settings later on.

What happens when a customer scans your QR code?

It's simple:

  1. They scan your QR code and open the sign-up form.

  2. They enter their details and sign up.

  3. They add their new loyalty card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

That's it! No app downloads or complicated registration process.

Step 5: Choose your plan and start your free trial

You're just one step away from your Loyaltify dashboard!

Choose the subscription plan that best fits your business and start your 14-day free trial.

Here's how it works:

  1. Choose your plan: Select the subscription plan that works best for your business.

  2. Enter your payment details: You'll be redirected to Stripe, our secure payment provider, to enter your payment details.

  3. Start your free trial: Once you've completed this step, your 14-day free trial begins. You won't be charged anything during the trial.

💡 Good to know: You can cancel your subscription any time before your trial ends, and you won't be charged. If you decide to continue, your selected plan will automatically begin when the 14 days are over.

💡 Tip: Planning to use our API or integrations? Choose the Advanced plan to explore these features during your trial.

Step 6: You're all set! 🎉

Congratulations! You've finished setting up your first loyalty programme with Loyaltify.

Before welcoming your first customers, here are a few things we recommend.

1. Test the experience yourself

Open your sign-up form on your phone by scanning the QR on your Flyer, register as a customer, and add your loyalty card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

This is a great way to see exactly what your customers will experience.

2. Download the Loyaltify Store app

Your team will use the Loyaltify Store app to scan customers' loyalty cards, add stamps or points, and redeem rewards.

The app is available for both iOS and Android.

3. Invite your team

Head to the Team section of your dashboard to invite your staff.

You can add unlimited team members on every plan, making it easy for everyone to participate in your loyalty programme.

See Manage your Team & Roles for more details.

4. Start spreading the word

Once you've published your programme, place your QR code or flyer somewhere customers can easily see it.

You can also share your sign-up form on your website, social media, or anywhere you connect with your customers.

5. Explore more features

Once you're comfortable with the basics, there's plenty more you can do with Loyaltify:

  • Push Notifications: Send special offers and updates to your customers.

  • Birthday Rewards: Surprise customers with a reward on their birthday.

  • Referral Program: Encourage customers to invite their friends.

  • Analytics: Track your loyalty programme's performance from your dashboard.

And remember, you can always return to your dashboard to update your card design, rewards, sign-up form, and other settings.
